Germany – Austria – Italy

We are determined to still get some pool time in Arezzo today so we have left early – just a bit after 7am.  We have about 900km to drive which should take about 8 hours.  Austria is slow to drive through it is basically all dug out with massive construction everywhere plus on the best of days Austrians are lost and bewildered on the autobahn going anything over 120km/h.  Driving in Italy on the other hand has its own charm.  Most of the drive today is though the mountains.  In Italy it feels like you are sitting in one of those Hot Wheels cars going on a track.  I don’t think there is 50m of straight road across the mountains in Italy.  It is twisty, narrow and bumpy.  Two hands on the steering wheel and eyes glued to the road – it is like driving a roller coaster but with obstacles.  Even though it is not a fast drive it is equally as intensive and tiring as ripping down the autobahn in Germany – Italy is driver’s road.   Fun times.
