Getting Lost in France

After Strasbourg we pointed out Alfa Romeo in the general direction of Dijon. Both of us visited Dijon in 2001 and remember it very fondly.   We wanted to get lost in the French country side.  Take the secondary roads and  stay off the highways, just like we did last time.   Endlessly drive through the fields of lavender and sunflowers and stop at the great wineries of Alsace and Burgundy on the way to Dijon.  What could be better, this was going to be 320 km of pure driving bliss.  Except it was not!  After 200km we got off the French country roads, got on the paid highway and drove like hell to Dijon to look for a hotel.  We saw exactly 310km of endless corn fields, on the left and on the right, up on the hills and down below, corn, corn, corn and more corn… One sunflower field and one winery that should not even be counted.  WE made a horrible mistake!  After circling Dijon for a while we elected to go and stay in the country and drove to Beaune, found a charming little hotel and went to sleep.  Long day with no lavender fields to sooth the soul.  Tomorrow we try again, after all we are in the wine capital of Burgundy.
