Around Amiens

The first known settlement is Samarobriva (“Somme bridge”), the central settlement of the Ambiani, one of the principal tribes of Gaul. The town was given the name Ambianum by the Romans, meaning settlement of the Ambiani people. The town has been much fought over, being attacked by barbarian tribes, and later by the Normans. In 1113 the city was recognized by the King of France, and joined to the Crown of France in 1185.

After visiting the cathedral we set out to see what this town is all about and to find a suitable place to eat another delicious French crape.  It did not take long to find a place that specialized in crapes and various other French delights.  Crape Oscar was the winner of a 5000 calorie dessert.  A large crape the size of a truck tire, stuffed with two scoops of salted caramel ice cream inside, served with pecans and caramel sauce and a small mountain of Chantilly cream!
