On the way to Harztor we passed through the largest village in the region.  Nordhausen has a population of about 44,000 and was 75% destroyed during the bombing raids during WW II.  This little town is very charming and well preserved.  It has been rebuilt and renovated and it certainly worth coming back to for a closer look.
