Sénanque Abbey

Chances are that if you have ever seen a picture of a lavender field in France with a large building in the back ground it most likely was Senanque Abbey. The abbey was funded in 1148 and rose to an enormous prominence and wealth in the 13 to 14th century then lost it all when the French Revolution came around. Today the monks who run the Abbey support themselves by growing lavender and tending to their bees.
