Neuschwanstein Castle

So, a short distance from Garmisch is the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. Last year when we visited the site the castle was covered in scaffolding as it was being renovated. The renovations are done now and that only means one thing – the tourists are back with a vengeance. By the time we got here at 4 pm all the tickets and tours were sold out, so once again we did not get to see the castle inside. We will have to come back and perhaps see not just the Neuschwanstein but the other two castles located nearby as well.

We stayed overnight when we were there a couple of years ago (not in the castle, obv), and it was so nice! At about 5 pm all the tourists disappeared, and we had a nice walk in the village, around the lake and saw the other castle too. It was totally worth it – but one night is also enough.

… and if you only walked a few miles out of the village you would happen upon this wonderful place where we had some amazing cake and coffee and bought pounds and pounds of cheese.. Yum!

It looked delicious! Hope you eventually get to see the castle. We didn’t go in – just walked up & looked around, which was impressive enough for us. It’s enormous when you get right up to it, and had tickets been free, and the crowds smaller, we’d definitely have gone in. 🙂
