Protestant New Temple

A short walk from the Cathedral  at the confluence of the Moselle and the Seille rivers is the New Protestant Temple.  After German annexation, Metz became a showcase city  of Wilhelmine empire. The architectural eclecticism is reflected by the appearance of many buildings in the Romanesque Revival style, Central Post Office, the New Temple or a new railway station; Gothic Revival style, such as the portal of the Cathedral and the Temple of Garrison, or neo-Renaissance as the Governor’s palace.  To consolidate his power and hold on Metz, William II enacted a Germanization policy over Metz by  investing considerable time, effort and money in shaping the architecture of Mets under his rule.  We did not get to see this Temple inside, it was closed,  but its placement and the surrounding park are very beautiful and peaceful.  For me, so far, this is the coolest looking building in Metz.  I like the purple accents on it, I like its compact shape, I like the stone it is built from and on some level it reminds me of Rivendell, from LOTR which is also cool.

This city has gone crazy over colours, these contracts are everywhere on the old buildings.
