Mirabell Palace and Gardens

We are exploring a bit of the other side of Salzburg.  The side of Salzburg we did not see the last time we were here.  First on the agenda after breakfast was a quick stop for a coffee and beer.  Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau had Altenau Palace built in 1606 as a token of his love for Salome Alt. The palace fulfilled its purpose: fifteen children were born of their union, ten of whom survived.  After Wolf Dietrich’s death, the palace was renamed “Mirabell” by his successor, Markus Sitticus von Hohenems.  For any serious The Sound of Music buffs some of the scenes from the movie were filmed here in these gardens.  The gardens are beautiful, the weather is stunning and the atmosphere is great…

Meanwhile in Edmonton they are expecting up to 15cm of snow. I am not saying it but you know there is a good chance it might snow when you go there for a visit…

Haha! July is actually the only month there’s never been snow in Edmonton. Got a picture from Calgary today from HL – snow!!! Meanwhile here the canola fields are in FULL bloom, tulips out, etc. I’ve always enjoyed the spring here in DK, and from the looks of it you guys are a couple weeks ahead of us.
