Pest side of Budapest

After a nice visit to Buda site of Budapest we crossed the famous Chain Bridge,  to  Pest side of the city.  This, architecturally speaking, is the modern part of the city.  Pest side of the city is a treasure trove of Art Deco, Neoclassical and Classical architecture, perhaps mores than Prague.  For me that is a huge treat.  Pest does not shy from showing off its best pieces either, many of Budapest’s monuments and must see places are on this side of the Danube.  Hungarian Parliament Building, Gerbeaud Confectionery, which we sampled of course, Gresham Palace, Andrássy Avenue – are but a few great places on the map.

Timeless architecture around – but let’s talk about the flying pan! 🙂 The huge things you see in the first pan are dinner plate size potato pancakes. They are fried on the edge of this huge fryer, then they are turned over. Once they are almost done – the guy slides them through the middle of the pan so they get a nice bath of hot oil and turn instantly golden brown. The next pan was onion, red peppers, and sausages, the one next to it is fried graded potatoes, the one you can’t see was full of sauerkraut. We just had a dessert on the other side of the square and this looked so good!

Oh be still my beating heart…..and I have been in awe and a fan of the architecture through your eyes for the past year now. Just wait til you get back, I think you should put together a book of your photos, coffee table like. I want one anyways 😉

The idea has crossed my mind but more in the sense of an electronic book you can look at on the iPad. But if you want a printed one….. pick your favourite pics and we will see what can be done…

Ya, I’m old fashioned, I think the printed book would be spectacular.

In that case how about if you pick the pictures and I get it done for your anniversary….. how about that? A printed glossy and shinny book. 🙂
