Ai Casoni Dinner

After an exhausting day in Venice we are back at Ai Casoni Agriturismo.  Today we are going to try and eat like the locals do – a proper 3 course Italian dinner.  Right at the start we passed on the small antipasti as we had it before and know full well that it is anything but small.    We got a small free appetizer, followed by a starter pasta dish with homemade pesto and cherry tomatoes.  For main course we ordered  glazed beef on the bed of arugula and a 6 hour grilled meat for me with an order of pan fried vegetables, we did not bother ordering potatoes because that side dish is large enough to feed a family of  four all on its own.  We followed that with a small dessert of espresso semifreddo and a peach cake plus an espresso for me, and Sgroppio, which is an equal measure of Prosseco  and vodka with lemon gelato all whipped into frothy drink that is as light as it is refreshing – it is our new favourite drink!  We did not have the Grappa either – there simple was no room.  To drink we had a carafe of mineral water and a bottle of Prosecco.  Boris and Evelina on the other hand decided to have their favourite pizza by the pool, which we picked up on the way back from Venice at a local pizzeria.  Even though we had a lot of food and just barely walked out of there we came to a conclusion that in reality we only ate half of what would normally be served at a 3 course dinner!  I don’t know how Italians do this and stay so slim – it’s witchcraft is what it is.

We never tried gelato before but bought HD limoncello, surely nothing as good as what you have had there, but good enough to make that frothy drink you mention…yum must try tonight

Limoncello is also very good and it goes down well after dinner. Gelato is just Italian for phenomenal ice-cream – yesterday 3 times because it was hot!

But it tastes so much cleaner can’t figure out why I like it better than ice cream now

It is supposed to be not as sweet, more fruity and less fatty but it is kept at a lower temperature so it is not as frozen therefore tastes more creamy. I think I read that somewhere…but I am going to put this theory to the test when we are back and I try making it.
